BOB QUIGLEY: In 1978 a single fly, a large olive sculpin with four hearty hackles matukaed neatly down its back permanently burned Bob Quigley's name into my hero list. Its head was tightly spun olive hair trimmed into an elegant hood and it terminated in a small perfectly round glo-bug tucked in behind the hook's eye. The first crippled mayfly I ever saw (circa 1980) was tied by Bob and then again later while guiding in Alaska I encountered an immaculately tied #26 Royal Wulff that seriously blew my mind. No surprise, it too had been tied by Quigley. Despite our never meeting until 2000, I can say without hesitation Bob is the most influential and innovative tiers of the past several generations. Everything about Bob and his tying is "out of the box" and as proof, the cripple, paranymph, hackle stacker and the egg sucking concept are of his creation.
