TIM FOX: Tim, like me, is a product of the farming community around Chico, in the northern tip of California's Sacramento River Valley. We grew up fishing backwater sloughs for bass and bluegill one day, trout in nearby mid-elevation mountains the next...frequent forays to the best valley steelhead tributaries in the winter were complemented by nighttime commando raids on the "big Sacto" for striped bass in summer's suffocating heat. In an age where the fly fishing community was largely satisfied with Hare's Ears and Wooly Buggers, Tim saw Poopahs and Sleeches, and soon the brilliance of his fertile - some might say twisted - mind became obvious to us all. The Valley, with all of its fly fishing diversity, has served him well; and as you will discover, given him a lifetime of ideas for innovative fly design.
