A fly is a fly is a fly, right? Not exactly, though many 'discount' fly companies would have you believe otherwise. Next time you're standing in front of the flyshop bins, inspect a pattern for quality. Does it even have base wraps? What about the hook, hackle or dubbing quality? Did the tier's whip finish come off as clean as humanly possible? It's little things like this and a billion others that make the big difference in the way a fly fishes, and for how long. And it's also a huge reason we're so obsessed with fly quality and wickedly effective innovations that take a ho-hum day on the water and make it flat-out epic.
